Mini Tournament

Hail to thee !

Me and my two friends got together to face each other in mini fantasy battle tournament. The armies were Dwarfs vs. High Elves vs. Skaven at the size of 1200 points. Here's a little battle report of the matches against my dwarves. Skaven vs. High Elves ended in the victory of Elves, and that was the first time for them against Skaven. Must have felt good :)

In second turn Cannon, Bolt Thrower and rock of Grudge Thrower wasted again several vermin. The Skaven had good luck with leadership rolls.

Second turn of Skaven Dwarves heads start to roll. The vermin wizard blasted the Dwarf warrior unit with some kind of fire spell.

In third Dwarf turn the shooting attacks are focused on the BSB/Warlock stormvermin unit to get them turn their tail and run. Still the leadership rolls keep them in the game

In the third turn of Skaven the Warlock engineer shoots with Doom Rocket with unbelievable accuracy and everyone in warrior unit got hit. Six members remain standing but fail the leadership roll and flee from the table. Ouch !

In the fourth turn the stormvermin are almost blasted to bits, but still the leadership rolls succeed. Damned ! 

Giant rats charge to cannon and slaves charge to bolt thrower. Jezzails have been able to drop some quarrelers. At last the Gutter runners find their way behind dwarves lines and make attempt to destroy the grudge thrower with twenty poisoned sling shots

After failed charge the vermin wizard casted successfully the fire blast to Slayer unit with deadly outcome. Oh no !

Slayers charge the slaves, but didn't do much havoc. Is it just bad luck, or shitty dice ?!?

Dwarf army has died gloriously while the Skaven army still has lots of units, including the untouched Gutter runners. We decide to shake hand for exciting match and I congratulate the Skaven !

Although the game started great for the Dwarves and the war machines made lots of casualties to Skaven BSB unit they had great luck with dire rolls and I had little bit of bad luck.

Dwarves won the startup and started good. Grudge thrower did it's job and almost whole unit of Sword masters were crushed. Only two of them remain standing. Also the Elven BSB Prince with Eagle was blasted to oblivion with cannon. That was fun !

In the first elven turn they cannot do much anything but move and cast some spells that doesn't affect the Dwarves. In the second dwarf turn some spear elves die while dwarves try to take out the Mage

In second elven turn the Mage succeed casting the Flames of Phoenix to the Warrior unit killing three dwarves

In the third dwarf turn the warriors charge to Sword masters and kill the other with incredibly bad luck with dice roll. The Slayers charge the Phoenix Guard (softened by quarrelers) slaughtering the fleeing elves in the end

In the third turn of Elves the Sea Guard charged to Dwarf warrior unit and together with the Sword master champ sent them to heavenly hunting grounds. Unbelievably bad dice luck still remains.

I don't remember how it exactly happened, but before the Sea Guard charged the Quarrellers, they shot the Sword master dead

In the final dwarf turn the Slayers charged behind the Sea Guard and that was the end of match. This has to be the shortest match ever. Glory for Dwarfs !

Meanwhile in Hammerer unit

Slowly but surely the Hammerer unit is getting painted. Next photos will be after dip, but I have to paint cloaks, wood and accessories before that.

Findings from flea market

My wife came today from flea market and told me that she saw some kind of miniatures. "Some men with muscles and otter like creatures, which seem to be similar to your dwarves but bigger" was the quote, and I wondered could it be possible that they would be ogres. I don't know how is the flea markets in other countries, but in Finland it is extremely rare you can find miniatures. I had to go check them out and here they are !

These fellows might come handy when I create a Maneater warband in Mordheim or in future Warhammer army. The price was 6 euros from altogether, so I'm quite happy to have them. These are also nice snack in the middle of painting the dwarves.

More detailed Slayers

After long hours with little progress with Hammerers unit I wanted to complete the Slayer unit before my next fantasy battle session. The painting is finished and only antishine varnish remains to be added. Details could be more exact, but this time I didn't have patience to do better.

Testing the colour theme for the Hammerers

I have been playing the colour theme of the Hammerers in my mind for some time now, so I decided to try out the best idea and painted two hammerers with it. There are no highlighting done, but I'm fairly sure that these colours will be it. I may paint the command groups cloaks with a different colour, but don't know yet with what.

FaBa: Dwarves and Elves versus Skaven (edit: with battle report)

My hobby for collecting an army of Dwarves came to my first battle. At the moment I have troops for about 1700 point army so me and my friend with High Elves decided to make an alliance and challenge our other friend's skaven force, which exceeds 3000+ point. This game was little below 3000 points.

Before the match, the skaven player Mika was little bit over confident of winning our team. I was eager to stuff his ego down in his arse, but when I saw how few our troops were and how massive the skaven horde was, I had to accept the inevitable. There was going to be some serious ass whooping.

Here is how it went, as I remember it :)

First Round

The Skaven won the first turn and started to march forward. Warp cannon blasted away, but it didn't do much. Skaven slaves charged to some elven horsemen and ran over them, killing the whole unit.

In the turn of the order the Slayers started towards ratogres. The Elven Prince charged the Doom Wheel, but it sissied off so the charge went to Plaguefurnace and friends. Anvil got a wound to skaven shooters, but it was saved. The shooting and Warmachines made some damage. Hammerers took few steps backwards.

Second Round

In the second skaven turn they marched closer. Cannon failed again but shooters dropped few hammerers. Mika had a lucky strike with the spell and the got one in that dropped about fifteen hammerers. OUCH !

In second order turn (forgot to take photos) the Slayers charged the ratogres and Dragonslayer shouted a challenge to ratogre boss. Dragonslayer died gloriously against the magically frenzied enemy.  Other Slayers took some wounds but gave a few in return. Runemaster tried to strike the rune of Wrath and Ruin, but failed horribly blowing himself, along with the anvil and guards, up into oblivion. Warmachines  did some damage, but nothing special. Elves waited for skaven to meet them in melee.

Third Round

The third skaven turn was filled with cries of Charge ! Slaves and Clanrats reached the Thunderers, Screaming Bell with crew attacked the Hammerers, Abomination sprinted towards the Seaelves, but I guess the lactic acid slowed the pace and it stopped an inch in front of the elves. Slaves in the right flank charged the sword elves. Lives were lost on both sides, but the troops of order were in dreadful situation. Skaven gutter runners find their way behind dwarves war machines.

Third turn of order started in desperate defense. The Slayers reclaimed their glorious deaths, Thunderers did some damage, but not enough and was forced to flee. The Hammerers (if I remember correctly) were able to take out the Bell (though it might have been some elvish magic), but were sent to afterlife. Warmachines didn't do much, although the Bolt Thrower was able to kill a gutter runner. Only the sword elves were giving a hard time to the slaves.

Fourth Round

On the fourth skaven round was the last turn played. The Team Order was wiped off the battlefield. Don't remember the last moves agains elves, but the dwarves were gone. The game was over and hand shakes between the players where made. Congratulations to Skaven !

The first match was so delightful experience that it made me want more and try to size up my throng. I believe the game would be so much different, if the order team had had larger units, for example 40 dwarf warriors etc. because I was little bit surprised that the thunderers proved themselves in positive way also in melee agains two hordes. I also had a unit of miners, which I failed to bring to table. I think the rat ogres would have been overtaken if they would have come to aid the Slayers. Lots of buts, so I'm waiting eagerly the next session.
